February Update
I have finished my hand spun sleeveless cardigan. After weeks of work and a few late-night yarn sessions, I finally finished it! Can we just take a moment to appreciate how rewarding it is to wear something you created from scratch? I spun the yarn from a lovely fleece I have had for years which spun and knitted into a lovely lightweight jacket. The project turned out just the way I wanted it to, not only warm but also a delight to wear.
The best part? I designed it with versatility in mind. I can layer it over long sleeved tops or wear it over a tshirt. It’s the perfect addition to my wardrobe for those chilly February evenings. If you’re interested in a similar project, feel free to reach out, and I’d be happy to share my tips!
Gained Another Family Member to Knit For
Now, let’s talk about my second exciting update. This month, our family welcomed a new member! No its not a baby but a live in girlfriend. Much more challenging than baby knits I will have to come up with some actual garments , in exchange for some much needed assistance around the property.
I have already started sketching out plans for some socks and a sweater (that's not for me), in March. Always happy to make handmade knits for people who have asked for and do appreciate them. Apparently the girl friend is wearing one of the sons old handmade jumpers which I consider a rag - as I had to basically stitch it back up last time I was visiting.
So with my hand spun project behind me and my knitting needles ready, I am excited to take on the next sweater project. I’m thinking of making another cable pattern , this time for my son, as I enjoyed the grey jacket so much and he has asked for such a garment. I do worry though, about the way he treats his clothes - refer to the above mentioned ruined jumper. Also washing is a concern. On a recent trip to a second hand shop, here in Calgary, I noticed that a lot of the woollen jumpers on the racks had been felted . Obviously people don't read the washing instruction labels.
So there you have it—my February update filled with knitting triumphs and potential new family adventures. I hope your own projects are coming along smoothly, and remember, enjoy the process as much as the end result. Happy knitting, everyone!
